L&T, Reliance Infrastructure to Bag Mumbai Metro Orders of rs 1,300 Crore

Larsen & Toubro and Reliance Infrastructure are set to bag orders worth Rs 1,300 crore each for Mumbai metro project jobs, people close to development.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the nodal agency for the metro projects, opened bids for four packages to be awarded under Line 2B, which con nects DN Nagar to Mandale, and another five packages under Line 4 for the Wadala to Kasarvadali stretch. The total project cost of these two lines is estimated to be over Rs 25,000 crore. 
“Reliance Infra and L&T have emerged the lowest bidders for two packages each of the total nine to be awarded,” one of the persons cited earlier. “The projects will be officially awarded after the evaluation committee has approved it. 
A spokesperson for MMRDA declined to comment on the development.MMRDA had invited bids for engineering, procurement and construction work for both the lines and received response from 10 entities, companies and consortia included. 
The people in the know said L&T has bagged two packages under Line 4. Reliance Infrastructure, NCC and a consortium of Tata Projects and CHEC are the best bidders for one package each. Line 4 will have a 32.3-km long elevated corridor with 32 stations. Line 2B will be a 23.6 km long elevated corridor with 22 stations between DN Nagar & Mandale. Reliance Infrastructure in a joint venture with Rizzani de Eccher, J Kumar Infraprojects, Simplex Infrastructures, and JMC have emerge .. 
India plans to develop metro rail projects in over 30 cities. In a recent report, rating agency ICRA said the overall cost of expansion of operational and under-implementation approved metro projects is over Rs 2.5 lakh crore, thus supporting the order books of construction contractors.
