Decoding the Bullet train – for quarry & crusher owners: A Seminar by Baton Consultants

On 25th October 2018, more than 30 quarry & crusher owners gathered in Thane for a seminar conducted by Baton Consultants Private Limited. Our correspondent had a discussion with Mandar Chitre, managing director of Baton Consultants & Raj Shrivastav, Executive-in-charge Crushing & Screening Solutions, TIL Limited. The extracts of this interview are as below.

Q. What inspires you to do such events?

Mandar: We always wanted the community to come together for the upliftment of the industry. More than 25 lakh crores worth of infra projects, generating a robust demand of augmented technical equipment is what inspires me to reach for such initiatives. This was never done before. I would say that the story of infrastructure in India boomed from the Mumbai Pune Expressway, NHAI corridors, flyovers, metro trains, monorails, nuclear power stations, ports & now the bullet train. They are planning to spend two lakh crores only on the Mumbai infrastructure projects. Being based out of Mumbai, I am personally very much excited about it. In the next 10 years, the world will certainly see a new India emerge. Our country shall be a leading player in terms of supply of highly skilled manpower, be a base of robust infrastructure along with friendly policies to do business & mostly free of corruption.

Q. Tell us something about this seminar, what is “Decoding the bullet train”?

Mandar: Bullet train is a very prestigious landmark for India. Not just Japan, but the entire world will have their eyes on how well can we execute this project. The Indian government is certainly completing its due diligence to ensure efficient, effective & on time completion. However, at Baton, we also felt a need to contribute our bit to the success of this project. We called two very senior & eminent speakers, who have done considerable amount of research on this project. They would not like their names to be mentioned in this article. The speakers addressed the audience (quarry & crusher owners) who have their lands as well as infrastructure in the near vicinity of the bullet train track. The speakers did an excellent job in informing the audience that ‘what they have being doing for other projects will not suffice for the bullet train’. The demand of aggregate & sand is well beyond the current supply capacity. Quality restrictions are very stringent. Safety is certainly an important parameter. The Japanese will not allow any non-conformations to the requirement. The quarry & crusher owners had a fair understanding of what upgradations will be needed to meet the requirements of this project.

Q. What can TIL contribute to this project? What products can you offer?

Q. What do you plan next ?

Mandar: We are looking forward to have a similar event in the next sector which will cover area from Surat to Ahmedabad. The target audience will be quarry & crusher owners based in the Sevalia, Timba & Mehsana belts. This exercise will ensure that the same knowledge & vision is shared with the next area. I am sure that the speakers will agree to extend their services once again. The Crushing & Quarrying Forum has a vision to uplift the industry & we shall certainly give our best by organising more such events.
