Normet manufactured Battery Electric Vehicle becomes the First to be introduced in Hindustan Zinc’s Underground Mines
As a distinctive initiative by Hindustan Zinc to spearhead EV revolution in its underground mines along with the common sustainability goals of Normet, together the companies this year have introduced the first of the fleet of Normet SmartDrive® (BEVs) in Hindustan Zinc’s underground mines, to help decarbonize and improve environmental sustainability in the Indian mining industry. Future of mining equipments is in electrification, given the environmental and economic efficiency impact. By addressing these safety factors: air quality, noise level, and heat within the work environment, electrification is the solution for the industry that Hindustan Zinc recognises and is leading the change from the front, among its peers. Normet SmartDrive® is a modular battery electric vehicle (BEV) architecture designed to optimize energy consumption and performance in underground mining. This equipment enables higher productivity, lower operating costs and most importantly - zero local emissions. In the effort to drive sustainable solutions, Normet also offers remanufacturing services for customer’s equipments, targeted to extend the life of equipments whilst keeping Normet machines up-to-date with latest technology and increased efficiency. In addition, as a fast-growing and innovative technology company that has pledged to spearhead the muchneeded digital revolution in the underground infrastructure development space, we provide highly digitized and sustainable underground mining solutions to assist our customers in building safe and durable underground structures. We are focused on driving innovation through the introduction of sophisticated digital tools like SmartDrive®, SmartScan, and SmartSpray to underground operations. Leveraging our strength of global expertise and local presence, Normet is present pan India with factories at Jaipur, Khopoli and Howrah apart from a network of stock points, distributors and sales offices. At Jaipur, Normet has an equipment plant for local requirement, a service centre and chemical manufacturing plant. Further, Normet is investing in India with its upcoming ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Jaipur, for proximity to our customer sites. The facility will be home to the equipment manufacturing plant that will cater to local and global requirements, a global service centre, a dedicated global R&D centre and a modern training centre for our own teams as well as customers’ operators.
