Centre Greenlights Rs 1,012 Crore Highway Boost for Madhya Pradesh and Haryana
In a major push for infrastructure development, the Central Government has sanctioned two vital highway projects worth over Rs 1,012 crore in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, made the announcement on Tuesday, April 8.
Madhya Pradesh: Strengthening the Heartland’s Connectivity
A fund allocation of Rs 531.84 crore has been approved to revamp a 63.5 km stretch of National Highway-34, connecting Shahgarh to Damoh through Buxwaha and Narsinghgarh. The upgradations will transform this critical route into a robust two-lane highway with paved shoulders, aimed at ensuring safer and smoother journeys.
As part of the plan, five major bridges will be constructed, along with four bypasses at Buxwaha, Bhetera, Narsinghgarh, and Pipariya Champat—designed to decongest local traffic. Additionally, 1.3 km of dual-side service roads will be laid within urban Damoh to improve local commute conditions. National Highway-34 is a strategic link between Gangotri Dham in Uttarakhand and NH-44—India’s North-South corridor—at Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh. This enhancement is poised to elevate regional connectivity and boost transport efficiency across the central belt.
Haryana: A Smoother Route to Rajasthan Border
Meanwhile, Haryana will receive Rs 480.44 crore for the development of a 49.02 km stretch of NH-248A, running from Nuh to the Rajasthan border via Ferozepur Jhirka. The section will be widened into a four-lane highway, catering to the increasing volume of commercial transport that flows from Rajasthan toward the northern states.
To strengthen last-mile infrastructure, 6.84 km of roads in the villages of Malab and Bhadas in Nuh district will also be reinforced. NH-248A plays a vital role in connecting Gurugram, Sohna, and the industrial hubs of Nuh—making this expansion key to smoother freight movement and reduced congestion in the region. These projects underline the government’s continued commitment to enhancing national infrastructure, driving economic growth, and enabling seamless connectivity across India’s vital transport corridors.
