NHAI is considering canceling the bypass project contract

The National Highways Authority of India's decision to cancel the contract for the preparation of DPRs for three proposed projects in the state will have a bad impact on the planned Kundannoor-Angamaly bypass project.

The decision to grant exemption from GST and royalty for the construction of the proposed Kundannoor-Angamaly bypass, Kollam-Chengotta Road, and Thiruvanathapuram Ring Road projects has been put on hold by the state government, which means that the NHAI plans to temporarily halt the implementation processes. The project has been waiting for the state government's final approval for several months in order to start the land acquisition procedure.

The central government has already agreed to cover the entire cost of construction and land acquisition for the bypass project and has asked the state government to waive its GST share on construction materials and royalty on stones and soil. However, the state government has not yet taken a final decision on this, and this has impacted the start of land acquisition for the much-awaited road development project.
